Tales 1.1: Fairy Tales and Fables

£6.49£12.99

Please note: a special Tales 1.1 bundle, including Fairy Tales and Fables and its curriculum guide, is also available.

Fairy Tales and Fables is a compilation of well-loved childhood stories from master storytellers Hans Christian Andersen, the Brothers Grimm, Charles Perrault, and Aesop. Intended for first year students studying within the confines of a Charlotte Mason education, twelve fairy tales and twelve fables have been chosen for slow and careful reading across a thirty-six week school year as laid out in the accompanying Teacher’s Guide and Lesson Plan. This is in keeping with Miss Mason’s own programme for Literature as established in the late nineteenth century.

Delight your students with the traditional versions of much loved favourites, such as The Snow Queen, The Sleeping Beauty in the Wood, and The Mermaid, and share in the excitement of discovering some lesser known gems like The Marsh King’s Daughter. All these stories have been taken from popular Victorian editions of the works and retain the richness and beauty of the old language.

To get the most out of this book we highly recommend the teacher’s guide, which can be purchased individually or as part of a special bundle here.

Description

The stories have been arranged in the same order that they will be read during the school year, with longer stories segmented and spread across multiple lessons. Narration breaks are also included to indicate an appropriate place to stop and ask for narration during the reading if necessary.

We highly recommend the Tales 1.1: Teacher’s Guide and Lesson Plan to accompany the reading of this book for lessons. Inside the guide you will find detailed information on teaching Literature in Form I; 36 weeks of lesson plans; a step-by-step walk-through of each lesson; important notes and content warnings for the parent/teacher; weekly copy work passages; lessons for drawing scenes from their Tales, in brushwork; and much more.
